As with the previous series, my 5 and 6 year old FAFOLs were involved in the build. Upon opening the bag and looking at the instructions, I was immediately sad for the hedgehog. I certainly hope they are color blind. Otherwise the little critter might suffer some migraines or worse, seizures from the bright technicolor palette of materials. Inside his little hideway alone is pink, lime, and yellow. Medium lavender is also apparent. Perhaps the little snoutnose prefers living in a prolonged psychedelic state. An ingenious little trick with some SNOT allows him to close the leaves down around him so he can be alone in his little bower.
There is another little five piece build as well. It consists of 2 small dark red leaf pieces on a green 2x3 plate. This is apparently a fall scene. So the leaves on the ground I get. But what I don't get is the orange 1x1 round plates. At first I thought this little build was some sort of alien bush with dark red leaves and orange fruits. Maybe a miniature diseased kumquat bush? Not sure but it didn't get much love from the little girls.
With all the new molds being produced for Chima I am a little disappointed that a new rake piece couldn't be created as well. 'Cause when you have a pitchfork, everything looks like manure. Or mad scientists.
Overall I'm not very impressed with this set. I could definitely have left it on the shelf had it not been for my obsessive compulsive collecting disorder. I would have left it for the dark brown hedgehog or the dark red leaves. But LEGO could have filled a bag with random parts, made it part of a limited edition endless series and I would have bought it. Such is life.
